Jesus' teachings on the Holy Eucharist

The multitude saw that Jesus and His apostles had left, so they went to Caphernaum and searched for Him. They found Him in the Synagogue. This multitude were mostly people that were of the 5,000 that Jesus had fed the day before. They asked Him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?” Jesus said, “You seek me, not because you have seen miracles, but because you ate the loaves of bread. Do not work for meat that perishes, but that endures life everlasting, which the son of man will give you. For Him has God, the Father, given permission.” The people said to Him, “What shall we do, so that we may work

There is nothing symbolic in what Jesus is saying. In fact, Jesus is saying it plainly so that there is nothing that will confuse us. Jesus is giving us His flesh to eat and His blood to drink in the Holy Eucharist. Unless we eat His flesh and drink His blood we shall not have life everlasting. Life everlasting means spiritual life. So what Jesus is saying is that when we receive the Holy Eucharist, we have a stronger chance of getting to Heaven and grow in our spiritual life. Jesus says, “Your fathers who ate manna are dead.” They ate natural food and had a natural death. “He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has everlasting life.” Those who eat Jesus’ flesh and blood, which is spiritual food, shall have spiritual life. It may be hard to believe that the Holy Eucharist, that once was bread, when consecrated becomes Jesus’ body. But Jesus is God and, God the Father (Who is His father) wants Him to do this. God can do anything. And why should we doubt in Jesus. If you think about it, it is wonderful that Jesus can come to you, and go into you through the Holy Eucharist. And more than that, Jesus wants to come to you and help you. You must never refuse Him. And when He comes, do not ignore Him while He is physically in the home of your soul. Try to “entertain” Him as you would to a special guest. Talk to Him in prayer, what He likes even more is when you talk to Him in your own words. Tell Him of your troubles, ask Him for help, thank Him for His many blessings He has given you. Simply thank Him for coming. Now when someone special is coming to your house, you always straighten things up so that it looks nice. When Jesus comes to the home of your soul, we should clean up so that it looks nice and is a comfortable stay for Him. Keep sin off your soul as one would keep dirt out of their house. Do not disappoint Jesus when He comes, and strive harder then ever to keep your soul clean for the next time He comes. It is very hard to fight sins. When Jesus comes and you have had a hard time, and maybe your soul isn’t exactly squeeky clean, you can say to Jesus, “Jesus, I am so sorry that my soul is a mess. I will try harder not to disobey (or whatever sin you have a particularly hard time with) next time, please help me. I cannot do anything without your help. Next time my soul will not be so dirty for You.” Thank Jesus for coming to you and ask Him to come again. Jesus loves us so much that He will give us His own flesh & blood to eat and drink so that we can get to Heaven.

the works of God?” “This is the work of God,” Jesus said, “that you believe in Him that He has sent.” They said therefore to Him, “What sign do you show, that we may see, and may believe you? What do you work? Our fathers ate manna in the desert, as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.” Jesus replied, “Moses did not give you bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is what comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.” They said to him, “Lord, give us always this bread.” And Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life: he that comes to Me shall not hunger: and he that believes in Me shall never thirst. You also have seen Me, and you do not believe. I came down from heaven, not to do My own will, but the will of Him that sent Me.” The Jews then murmured at Him, because He said: I am the living bread which came down from heaven. They said to each other, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can He say, I came down from heaven?” Jesus said to the people, “Do not murmur among yourselves. I am the bread of life, if any man eat of it, he may not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If any man eats this bread, he shall live forever; and the bread that I will give, is My flesh, for the life of the world.” The Jews were angry and said among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Then Jesus said to them: “Amen, amen I say to you: Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, you shall not have life in you. He that eats my flesh, and drinks my blood, has everlasting life. Indeed My flesh is meat: and My blood is drink. He that eats My flesh, and drinks My blood, abides in Me, and I in him. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your fathers who ate manna are dead. He that eats this bread, shall live for ever.” Many of his disciples, hearing this, said, “What He says is too hard to believe.” And many of them left Jesus and no longer walked with Him. Then Jesus said to the twelve, “Will you also go away?” Simon Peter answered, “Lord, to whom shall we go to? You have the words of eternal life. And we have believed and have known, that you are the Christ, the Son of God.”
