The Monastery, apart from many other things, was the home of the Scriptorium. The Scriptorium is where the monks made copies of valuable books. This task was taken very seriously by the monks, and those that performed it were called scribes. Although the most important book they wrote down was the Holy Bible, they also made copies of the lives of Saints, old philosophical books from ancient times, and many others. We owe many old books that we have up to this present day to the monks of the medieval times who spent hours upon hours copying every word.
