A Poem to Mary, My Mother

Ruth Marion Fortune

O, My Mother, virgin fair,
May I place roses in your hair?
Each rose I send to you above
I grew with all my care and love.
The roses make a lovely crown.
May I also send a gown?

I wove each slender thread with care,
Because the threads are made of prayer.
I give this gift as your small child,
O, lovely Mother, sweet an mild.
And now I give you all my life,
To give to Jesus as He likes.

Please tell your Son I love Him too,
I give Him everything through you.
O, Mary, Mother, on this day,
I long with you to always stay.
And finally, I give my love.
It flies to you swift as a dove.
