A Saint's Life

by Olivia Burdick

"Come on, its ridiculous". Janet said. "What's so ridiculous" her friend Tess replied "Going to that monastery is ridiculous, you'll wreck your life!" "One, its a convent Janet, not a monastery, and two, how is it supposed to wreck m life?" Tess coolly replied. " Your the smartest kid in the school, you could go on to be a world famous doctor or something, but joining the Carmelites means you can't do that!" Tess sighed and walked around the table to her friend. She could clearly see that Janet was nearly crying with frustration. " Look Janet, I fell that God is calling me to this work, you see I want to be a Saint". "You can be a Saint without being a nun, Tess" "I know that, but I fell really atracted to the Carmelite life!" "Does it have to be a enclosed order, it means that your family and I can never touch, only see each-other through iron bars." Janet sobbed into Tess' shoulder. "I love the way Saint Therese if the Child Jesus lived, and the carmelite order was the order she joined!" Janet dried her eyes. She could see that though her friend was sad, she would not change her mind. "Well, your order will be snowed in under letters!"
